ActivePresentation Designer add-in does not initialize

Symptom

When starting Microsoft PowerPoint, you may see an error message as shown below and you are subsequently unable to use any of the ActivePresentation Designer functionality.

Version 1.4 and later:

Cause

The add-in may become disabled by PowerPoint if the ActivePresentation Designer add-in is actively running/executing when PowerPoint is closed or if PowerPoint crashes.

Fix

Follow the steps below to re-enable the ActivePresentation Designer add-in so that you can create non-linear PowerPoint presentations:

PowerPoint 2010
  1. Select the File tab or press Alt+F key combination.
  2. Click Options button in the left pane
  3. Select Add-Ins in the left pane.
  4. Select Disabled Items in the Manage box and click Go… button.
  5. Select ActivePresentation Designer and click Enable button.
  6. Click Close to dismiss the dialog box.
PowerPoint 2007
  1. Select the Office Button or press Alt+F key combination.
  2. Click PowerPoint Options button.
  3. Select Add-Ins in the left pane.
  4. Select Disabled Items in the Manage box and click Go… button.
  5. Select ActivePresentation Designer and click Enable button.
  6. Click Close to dismiss the dialog box.
PowerPoint 2003, 2002
  1. Select Help About Microsoft Office PowerPoint.
  2. Click Disabled Items… button.
  3. Select ActivePresentation Designer and click Enable button.
  4. Click Close to dismiss the dialog box.
