How to Enable a Disabled Add-In

If you cannot see the vMaps button in the Insert tab of the ribbon when you open PowerPoint 2013, 2010 or 2007 after installing the product or after having used the product for some time, below are some things to check.

Note: you should not need to change any of your macro security settings in PowerPoint.

Did you Install with Windows Administrator Privileges

vMaps requires to be installed with admin permissions. If your Windows account doesn’t have admin rights, you may need to ask your IT administrator to install vMaps or you can use this method.

After a Failed Installation

Check that you do not have any versions of PowerPoint installed on your PC prior to PowerPoint 2007, for example, PowerPoint 2003. Multiple installations can cause the registration of add-ins to fail. If you do have earlier versions of PowerPoint, uninstall them and then reinstall the vMaps add-in.

After a Successful Installation

Sometimes PowerPoint crashes. Unfortunately, it’s a fact of life that not all software is perfect. When restarting PowerPoint after a crash, PowerPoint can often decide to disable one or more add-ins so that PowerPoint can check that it restarts properly. However, PowerPoint doesn’t tell you it’s done this! So, to enable a disabled add-in, follow these steps.

PowerPoint 2010 & 2013
  1. Select the File tab or press Alt+F key combination.
  2. Click Options button in the left pane
  3. Select Add-Ins in the left pane.
  4. Select Disabled Items in the Manage box and click Go… button.
  5. Select [ADD-IN NAME] and click Enable button.
  6. Click Close to dismiss the dialog box.

PowerPoint 2007
  1. Select the Office Button or press Alt+F key combination.
  2. Click PowerPoint Options button.
  3. Select Add-Ins in the left pane.
  4. Select Disabled Items in the Manage box and click Go…button.
  5. Select [ADD-IN NAME] and click Enable button.
  6. Click Close to dismiss the dialog box.
